Dr. Wendy J. Ryan
Dr. Wendy Ryan received her B.S. in Zoology from Auburn University. She then completed a Masters Degree in Physiology from Auburn University, with her research and thesis completed at the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health. After her Masters, Dr. Ryan went on to earn her D.V.M at Auburn University and has been practicing medicine for over 25 years. Her internship was at Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital, in Dallas, TX, a full-service AAHA 24-hour Animal Hospital. During this intense training she worked on many different species, from lions and tigers to falcons, hawks, lizards, and rodents. And of course, dogs, cats, ferrets and exotic birds, as well. She had further training at a dental specialty hospital in Illinois and here in North Carolina. Her current interests are in internal medicine and surgery, geriatric medicine, dentistry and feline and canine behavior.
In her spare time, Dr. Ryan trains and competes with her own dogs in Agility, Obedience and Conformation. (She even trained her cat, K.C, to fetch!) A long-time mixed-breed dog enthusiast, she was given a tiny Chinese Crested Powderpuff puppy by a show breeder. Until little Jo Jo came along, all she had ever owned, were large mixed-breed dogs and cats, but now, she has fallen in love with these small fluffy dogs. She now owns four of them, Jo Jo, Teddy, Chloe and her first home-bred AKC Champion, Annabelle. Reilly, her large Samoyed-Border Collie dog is now in charge of this tiny pack of Chinese Cresteds. Teddy, Annabelle’s father, is also a Champion, and to his dismay, Annabelle often beats her father in the Show Ring. Sigh. (But you know what they say: "If what you breed is better than what you had, then you’re doing a good job".)
To keep up with her training, Dr. Ryan goes yearly, to the largest Veterinary Conference in the world, The North American Veterinary Conference. It covers all aspects of medicine and surgery for most species and covers the most up-to-date trends in medicine and surgery. The Conference is 5 days long with classes 8 hours a day. A great place to learn new stuff!
Dr. Ryan’s other hobbies are gardening, painting, running around with her friends and walking with and training her dogs.
